The Employment and Training Programs Division oversees the development and delivery of programs to help create a workforce to meet the demands of the Newfoundland and Labrador economy. This involves providing guidance and support for the development of policy and procedures on employment and training programs that help people plan for, find, and keep jobs.
The Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour delivers a range of employment and training programs and services. These include programs and services funded through four joint Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador agreements: the Labour Market Development Agreement, the Labour Market Agreement, Targeted Initiative for Older Workers, and the Labour Market Development Agreement for Persons with Disabilities.
The division develops and delivers a comprehensive suite of programs, services and supports to strengthen the workforce for the province. This included the provision of supports for individuals to assist with career decisions and securing employment, while helping employers recruit and retain the necessary employees to grow their businesses.
Programs include wage subsidy programs, pre-employment programs, short term training programs, supports to attend postsecondary education, programs to help youth and students transition to post-secondary and into employment, career planning services, employment counselling, and community and labour market partnerships.
